YOUNGSTERS in Christchurch will be growing their own vegetables thanks to a generous supermarket.
Waitrose has donated four seed kits to primary schools to encourage them to grow their own produce then sell it at school or to their customers to raise money for the school.
The kit has been designed to get school vegetable patches up and running and includes seeds, equipment and step-by-step instructions.
Tracey Harrison from Waitrose in Christchurch said: “They will be able to receive additional kits through our in-store Community Matters Scheme if they need any more.”
“The initiative aims to inspire more than 100,000 children across the UK to grow their own produce through the summer months.”
Pupils from The Priory, St Joseph’s, Highcliffe St Mark’s and Burton Primary are included in the scheme.
Staff from the store recently went along to Christchurch Junior School to do a presentation on healthy eating to around 130 pupils as part of the fantastic Waitrose Volunteering scheme.
The pupils took part in tastings, quizzes and put together their own advert with meat, fish, cheese and fruit and vegetable specialists from the store.
Volunteers from the store will also be helping out at the opening night of the Priory’s soup kitchen in The Mayors Parlour on Tuesday, June 4.
