A BABY bop for the cutest of clubbers has launched at a Bournemouth nightspot.
Children under the age of three are welcome to dance the morning away at Bar So for new event Baby Goes Clubbing.
The sessions, which take place on Thursday mornings at the Exeter Road club, are the brain-child of former nanny Penny Unwin, owner of children’s entertainment company Minky Moos.
Penny, who trained at Norland College in Bath, said: “Previously, I had an amazing career as a nanny in London and New York, but I wanted to with children focusing on their development in a different way.
“I decided to look at creativity, dancing, art and entertainment for children. I’m from Bournemouth – I love my home town, and I wanted to do something here.”
The 45-minute sessions include a warm up, fitness dances and a cool down routine, as well as light displays.
“Part of the aim is freedom of expression,” said Penny. “I wanted to work with music and make mums and babies feel good.
“Being a new mum can be really hard, so the social element is important too.
“It can be challenging, tiring and lonely, as well as amazing and wonderful, so we have a social area for mums to visit after the dancing too.”
Sarah Jackson, of Bournemouth, took nine-month-old Dylan along to the event.
She said: “It’s really good fun.
“There’s nothing else like it in Bournemouth for mums and babies. It’s a brilliant idea.”
Katie Richmond, 30, of West-bourne, said 10-month-old Ava was having a good time.
“We go to Penny’s other classes on Monday, and it’s quite similar with lots of dancing, but this is amazing,” she said.
Soraya Foster, 31, enjoyed the event with 19-month-old Matilda.
She said: “I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it’s a brilliant idea.
“There are a lot of other mums here, which is great. Matilda is having a fabulous time.”
