A PLAQUE celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee year was unveiled in Corfe Castle on Sunday, the 60th anniversary of her coronation.
Carved from Purbeck stone by local craftsman Val Quinn, the plaque was unveiled in the village square by local dignitaries, including parish council chairman Stephen Dru Drury, joined by local youngsters from the Cubs and Brownies.
Robin Swaine, chairman of the village's jubilee committee, said the plaque was as much to celebrate the village and its vibrant community spirit as for last year's event, which saw them hold lively events including a 21-shotgun salute and a beacon-lighting.
“There was an audible gasp from the 200 or so people there when the curtain opened as it really is very good,” he said.
“It was a wonderful event to mark all the celebrations we had in the village for the Jubilee. Our village is a very friendly place anyway, but the Jubilee brought so many people together. We had a really fun time.”
After the unveiling the villagers enjoyed tea on the church lawn.
