THE grand manor house that featured in the film adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s Far From The Madding Crowd has gone on sale for £4m.

Bloxworth House, near Wareham, boasting eight bedrooms, five bathrooms, vaulted wine cellars and even its own brewery, was one of the main locations in the 1967 movie, starring Julie Christie.

The Grade I listed property, set in eight acres, was purchased in 1997 by garden landscape designer Martin Lane Fox who has now put the historic property on the market.

Mr Lane Fox, the uncle of dotcom millionaire Martha Lane Fox, renovated the gardens and installed a stunning ornamental canal. He now plans to downsize.

Bizarrely, the family of the estate agent selling the stunning property also used to own it. Peter Lane of Savills said: “My father’s first cousin bought it in 1964; I remember going to the house as a child with my sister when they were filming Far From The Madding Crowd.”
