THE Twin Sails Bridge at Poole is back working at its proper speed after a faulty valve was replaced.
John Rice, engineering and maintenance manager at Borough of Poole, said: “Work to replace the loading holding valve in the hydraulic lifting system of the Twin Sails Bridge was successfully completed on Tuesday evening.
“We carried out several test lifts operating at the normal speed and were satisfied that the bridge was working correctly. The Twin Sails Bridge returned to operating with both hydraulic cylinders on each leaf on Wednesday and is now lifting again within two minutes.
“We are continuing to make progress with the final defects and the works undertaken recently are producing improved reliability with the operation of the bridge,” he said.
From a “snagging” list of around 100 defects reported in April, contractors and council officers have worked hard to reduce this, getting it down to 30. Three-quarters of these are now fixed, subject to monitoring and inspection.
