WITH blazing sunshine lighting up a host of colourful entries, it was a golden year for Lymington and Pennington Festival.
Thousands of people flocked to the New Forest annual event on Saturday to watch the lively carnival leave from Pennington Common before snaking round the streets of Lymington and processing down the High Street.
The overall winners of the entertainment-themed carnival were Milford Pre-School with their float depicting the magical land of kids’ TV hit Ben and Hollies Little Kingdom.
They were followed close behind by All Saints’ Junior School, who impressed with their Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
Street collections netted £1,512 for a pot of money available to local groups and charities.
The Lions Club of Lymington and Brockenhurst organised the event.
Carnival chairman Ian Duncan said: “We were really pleased with the turnout, there was a lot more people on the streets that in recent years.
“I think it was the community getting together to show they are still able to put on a carnival in these times, especially when it is difficult to get businesses involved because of the nature of the economy.”
The main sponsors were Wetherspoons and BHG Marine.
