A MAN suffered a head injury after a lump of steel fell on his head this morning.
The incident took place at a building site at Hurn House in Christchurch Road at around 8.45am, and a second man was also injured.
A spokesperson for South West Ambulance Service said two ambulances were sent to the scene.
The more seriously-injured patient, who was wearing a hard hat, suffered a head injury but was breathing and conscious.
Both were taken to Poole Hospital.
After the incident the site – former Bournemouth University halls now being renovated as student accommodation by Harbourview Developments of Poole – was closed for 24 hours for a Health and Safety Executive investigation.
Local trader Ahmed Alsoufi, of East Cliff News, said he had heard the victim was struck by a falling piece of metal.
“There were a couple of ambulances there for quite a while,” he said.
“I hope the guy is all right.
“They have been working hard since March and it has been really good for the area,” he added.
Craig Sharp, of Bournemouth firm Wilson & Sharp which owns the property, said the two men were “alright”.
“We turned up to find ambulances outside and told them all to clear the site for a thorough investigation,” he |said.
“It is a safe site but accidents happen and we are doing everything we can to find out what happened.”
