A PUBLIC consultation has begun into improvements planned for Bournemouth’s Horseshoe Common.
The improvements would be paid for from the Three Towns Travel programme, which attracted £12million in funding for easing congestion in Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch.
Planned improvements include: a new street layout; replacing the existing roundabout with a junction; new walking and cycling routes; re-desigining the common to create a new public space; removing physical and visual barriers; relocating taxi ranks and bus stops; introducing a 20mph zone; and closing the road at night at weekends.
Cllr Michael Filer, Bournemouth council’s cabinet member for transport, said: “The route from the Travel Interchange to the town centre via Holdenhurst Road and Old Christchurch Road is a key gateway into Bournemouth.
“Through Three Towns Travel we want to improve the area around Horseshoe Common, by making it safer and more attractive, which will encourage greater footfall and support local businesses.”
An exhibition of the proposals will be at Horseshoe Common on Wednesday July 24, 2-7pm, with officers on hand to answer questions.
The proposals and questionnaire are also at Bournemouth Library at www.threetownstravel.co.uk
