PLANS to expand two Bournemouth primary schools to cater for a total of 390 extra pupils are set to be approved by councillors next Wednesday.
In a bid to provide places for an increasing number of primary school pupils, councillors are proposing to expand Kingsleigh by two forms of entry.
This will eventually make the school the joint biggest in Bournemouth, with space for 840 pupils and a maintained nursery. The only other school in Bournemouth of that size is Winton Primary, which has also been expanded over the past few years.
Councillors are also looking at expanding Christ the King Catholic primary school in Kinson, by creating an additional form of entry able to take in 60 reception pupils every year. This will eventually take the school's capacity from 300 to 420 pupils.
Expansion of Kingsleigh primary will cost £4.4m as it will include a major extension and remodelling of the existing school layout. A further £1.67m will be spent expanding Christ the King.
If proposals are approved, work could start this summer to enable the schools to take in extra pupils from September 2014.
