LOVERS of world dance and music will be treated to a colourful outdoor celebration of dance and music from Africa on the Pavilion Dance terraces on Saturday from 12.30pm to 10pm.
Pavilion Dance South West and The Association of Dance of the African Diaspora present a full day of back-to-back dance workshops, performances and a spectacular carnival procession.
Guinean ballet troupe Nimba will present Bagatai – Land of the Baga, an artistic exploration of the Baga region, famous for its secrecy and impenetrable initiation ceremonies, at 12.30pm and 9.30pm.
If you thought ballet was all about pirouettes, let Ballet Nimba recalibrate your preconceptions with six high octane dancers, soaring vocals and outstanding percussions.
Batch Gueye and Friends will present Senegalese Kawlahk, a strong and complex rhythm that translates as ‘dance like a lion’, and Fass, a dance that brings good luck, at 12.30pm and 4.30pm.
Dancehall v African will be presented at by 12.30pm and 7pm by the Galang Crew, led by Swedish dancehall sensation Sara Galan, pulling together influences from traditions and club scenes as far and wide as Senegal, Guinea, Cote D’Ivoire, Angola and the US.
