A BOURNEMOUTH businessman was gored by a bull on the bloodiest day of this year’s famous Spanish Running of the Bulls festival in Pamplona.

Arran Campbell, 34, suffered serious injuries to his legs and ankle after a bull caught the back of his legs with its shoulder and knocked him to the ground.

Mr Campbell, who works at Coastal Car Sales, was able to escape by climbing over a fence 300m from the bull ring, but he saw another man being dragged away and mauled by a bull.

He said: “I will never forget the look on the man’s face as he was carried away on a tsunami of people and mad, angry, staring bulls. Only very serious runners are allowed to take part and if you pause or hesitate for just a second you will be in serious trouble.”

Arran received medical treatment at the festival and was advised to go to hospital due to the deep cuts and damaged ligaments in his ankle. He said: “I’m still very sore, but I’m just lucky that I managed to escape being trampled on.”

Arran took part on the first day of the nine-day San Fermin festival, which ran from July 6 to July 14.

There have been a total of 14 deaths at the bull run in the last 100 years and the most recent fatality was a 27-year-old Spaniard who was gored in the neck in 2009.

This year saw a 23-year-old Australian woman taken to hospital in “grave condition” after she was gored in the back in the final bull run of the festival. Arran said: “I would never do it again and I would seriously advise against other people taking part. It was by far the craziest thing I have ever done.”
