A BUSY road in Westbourne was closed this evening after fire broke out in a basement flat.
Six fire engines were on the scene at Poole Road.
The road was closed near Pizza Express to allow firefighters to deal with the situation. The Red Cross support vehicle was also on the scene.
The fire service said everyone was accounted for.
Around 30 firefighters from four local stations dealt with the incident.
Incident commander Julian Lockwood said the fire broke out in a basement flat beneath the Big Bath Company.
He believed the cause was electrical but it was still being investigated.
Two properties had to be evacuated but no one was injured.
The first 999 calls came at 6.30pm and it took until 8pm to bring the fire under control.
