THE green light has been given for homes to be built on the first of the big four Poole regeneration sites.
And applicant Inland Homes aims to start work “very soon” soon on the 9.8 acre former Pilkington Tiles site in Hamworthy.
The multi-million pound mix of 268 homes, business units and new road access, has been named Carter’s Quay.
Matt Corcoran, planning manager at Inland Homes said: “We are very pleased that members of the planning committee unanimously voted to approve our first phase of development at the former Pilkington Tile site.
“This is the result of many months of hard work and co-operation with officers at Poole Council and the local community. We are particularly excited by being the first developer to kick start this much needed regeneration and will be onsite starting work very soon.”
Borough of Poole’s planning committee unanimously granted the reserved matters application for the first phase of development on the site – the final hurdle before construction can begin.
This approval is for land adjacent to Blandford Road and Ivor Road and includes 82 homes, comprising one and two bedroom apartments and two, three and four bed houses and two business units.
In December last year outline planning permission was granted for 268 homes, some of which will have waterfront access and 436 car parking spaces.
Planning committee chairman, Cllr Phil Eades, said the applicant had worked well with the local community and the main considerations were the appearance of the buildings and landscaping.
“The committee considered that the appearance and design details of the scheme not only related to the local area, in terms of its architectural design features, but also created its own identity,” he said.
“This is the first phase of a much wider scheme to bring family housing, employment space, a new public quayside and the delivery of the port link road to Poole.”
