A HAIRDRESSER says his salon is being hidden from public view by inconsiderate bus drivers.
Anthony Aiden-Clift, who works for Beau Hair and Beauty in Seamoor Road, Westbourne, said drivers for Yellow Buses take rest stops directly opposite the salon.
As well as plunging customers and stylists into gloom, Mr Aiden-Clift said the business is completely obscured for up to three hours every day by the vehicles.
The salon is even obscured by a bus when searched for on Google Maps.
Mr Aiden-Clift said: “It’s really impacted us.
“Bus drivers stop there for 10 minutes at a time, and this happens every half-hour.
“We’ve told Yellow Buses that we have a major issue with this, but they’re not taking it seriously at all.”
Mr Aiden-Clift said he has “pleaded” with the bus company to move the stop, but to no avail.
“There must be a better, more convenient place for the buses to stop in for such a long time.
“Whenever they do outside the salon, it really creates a problem for the traffic as it blocks a whole lane.”
The salon, owned by Ryan Lockett, has been open for two years.
Richard Barnes, passenger transport manager at Bournemouth Borough Council, said: “We would encourage the Beau and Beauty salon owners to come and talk with us on the issues they have.”
Rest ‘vital to punctuality’
Jenni Wilkinson, head of marketing at Yellow Buses, said: “The bus stop in question is registered as a terminus for the 2c. Buses are parked for a period of between eight and 12 minutes twice an hour and the engines are turned off. The positioning of the stop is decided by the local authority.
"We understand the concerns expressed but the stop is vital to ensure the reliability and punctuality of our 2c route linking Westbourne and Castlepoint. We will, of course, continue to do everything possible to ensure any inconvenience is kept to a minimum.”
