FAMILY events are being held throughout Bournemouth Carnival week from Monday.
Mandy Jarvis, spokesman for the carnival committee, has revealed that as they are not having the procession this year they have been able to concentrate on having more family events.
She said: “We have a lot more family oriented events this year.
“We have some really good prizes for the duck races and we’re really pleased with how it’s come together.”
On the first day at Alum Chine there is a sand castle competition at 11am with a beach quiz at 12pm and a chalk drawing competition at 2pm.
On Tuesday there is a treasure hunt and more sand castle making and chalk drawing at Durley Chine from 11am with a display by the Bournemouth Lifeguards’ Association at 3pm.
The events are back at Alum Chine on Wednesday, Durley Chine on Thursday and Bournemouth Beach West on Friday, all starting at 11am.
There is no carnival procession this year.
But on Saturday, August 3 in the Lower Gardens the competitions will include bouncing baby, tiny tots, glamorous grandmother, knobbly knees, fancy dress and there will be a teddy bear competition and picnic. Children can dress their own teddies to enter into the competition.
Each day from Monday to Saturday the ever popular duck racing will take place in the Bourne Stream within the Lower Gardens, with the plastic ducks 20p each. The race starts at 5pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and at 4pm on Wednesday and Friday.
The week will ends on Sunday, August 4 with a gala night and carnival queen competitionat the Carrington House Hotel.
