CHERRIES superstar Steve Fletcher lent his support to new local primary school project Earth Charter, which teaches pupils about the importance of respecting the environment.
More than 400 children attended the event, which was hosted at the Avonbourne and Harewood Colleges and supported by the Green Goals initiative.
The day began with workshops and pupils making cakes and crafts with fair trade products and other sustainable and eco-friendly items.
These were then sold to other pupils using special green coins during an afternoon session as the children learned about recycling with a talk from water company Sembcorp.
Fletcher, who has recently taken up an ambassadorial role following his retirement, was delighted to be able to support such an important scheme.
“It was really good to see the children engaging with the Earth Charter programme and so eager to learn about how to look after the environment,” he said.
“We are fortunate to live in a very picturesque part of the world and it will be up to the children to look after it in the future. Green Goals has been hugely successful over the past few years and I’m sure the town will continue to benefit from the good work it does.”
The award winning Green Goals partnership is made up of Bournemouth Council Street Services, AFC Bournemouth, Castlepoint Shopping Park, New Earth Solutions, W&S Recycling, Eco-Sustainable Solutions, J&G Environmental, The Greenhouse Hotel and NGPS Ltd.
The Green Goals’ Community Fund allows local groups to bid for grants of up to £1,000 to help them projects for local people.
