POLICE are issuing traffic and crime prevention advice ahead of Swanage Regatta and Camp Bestival.

Swanage Regatta kicks off tomorrow and runs until Sunday, August 4.

Popular annual music festival Camp Bestival once again takes place in the grounds of Lulworth Castle, from August 1 and 4.

Traffic disruption is anticipated in the area during the events.

Purbeck Neighbourhood Inspector Fiona Gaffney said: “It will be busy on Purbeck roads and I'd urge local residents to plan their journeys so as to avoid the worst of the congestion.

“We anticipate the busiest periods will be on Sunday, July 28 and at the start and end of Camp Bestival - on Thursday August 1 and Monday August 4.

“Safer Neighbourhood Teams will be out and about offering community reassurance in the lead up to, and during, both events.”

Police officers will also be present at Swanage Regatta and Camp Bestival, to support organisers in ensuring a safe and enjoyable time for all.

Inspector Fiona Gaffney added: “We want visitors to have a good time but a safe time and would ask anyone attending the events to take steps to look after themselves and their belongings.

“Keep your valuables on you and don't leave them in your car or tent. Don't leave bags unattended and consider using the locker facilities provided at the site.

“If you are camping, pitch near friends and introduce yourself to those in neighbouring tents to help build a community and enhance security.

“Officers will be on site at both events and we urge you to report crime at the time, either to police or event staff.”
