SWANAGE Railway has started running its six-week daily summer evening train service.
British Railways diesel railcars, dating from the early 1960s, are being used on the service which links Swanage, Herston, Harman’s Cross and Corfe Castle.
Swanage Railway general manager Richard Jones said: “Our summer evening diesel train service really is the ideal way to travel for an evening out in Swanage or Corfe Castle if you are going for a meal or just to meet up with friends and want to leave the car and travel by train.
“The Isle of Purbeck attracts large numbers of tourists in the summer and this influx of people dictates the need for an enhanced summer evening train service.”
Three trains will run from Swanage every evening, between 7.10 to 10.30pm, and four trains from Corfe Castle to Swanage, between 6.30 to 10.50pm.
Tickets for unlimited evening travel on the diesel railcars, from 6.30pm, are £3 per adult, £2 per child and £9 for a family of two adults and three children. Youngsters under the age of five travel for free.
