A MAN is being held by police after a car crashed through a hedge in Poole on Saturday night.
Emergency services were called to the junction of Woodpecker Drive and Longmeadow Lane in Poole around 9.15pm to reports of a collision.
A grey Toyota Avensis, driven by a 59-year-old man from Creekmoor, had travelled through the junction, collided with the hedge and come to rest in the hedgerow opposite, a spokesperson for Dorset Police said.
The driver was trapped in the vehicle and had to be released by firefighters from Dorset Fire and Rescue.
The man had minor injuries and was taken to Poole General Hospital.
He is currently being dealt with by police on suspicion of driving offences.
Ray Styche, 67, of nearby Blackbird Close, said the car had gone through a hedge and ended up sideways between two trees, with one tree on top of the car.
His wife Mavis said she had heard the “whoosh” of a car going past followed by a loud bang.
Another resident, George Salmon, 70, said: “I heard a bang about 9pm. There were police and ambulances.
“Apparently the car had gone about 50 yards into the hedge. I saw them carry a man out of the car and handcuff him.”
He said the man had been put on a stretcher and taken away by ambulance.
