CARNIVAL fever took over Swanage seafront yesterday as the annual event paraded around the town.

From brightly coloured dancers decked out in sequins and feathers, more often found at Notting Hill Carnival, to marching bands and majorettes, everyone came together to celebrate all that is good about Swanage.

With a theme of Swanage Goes to Hollywood, there was a menagerie of delights for children and their families to cheer, woop, and applaud, as the glitz and glamour of the movies took over the seaside resort.

Christchurch Cruiser Club kicked off proceedings as numerous Harley Davidson’s roared past the Pier, following an introduction by Bournemouth Carnival Band, more affectionately known as the Spiderman band, due to their costumes.

A line of carnival queens from Poole, Bournemouth, and across Dorset also brought some red carpet glamour to the parade, whilst St George’s CE VA Primary School, based in Langton Matravers, were dubbed movie stars for the day.

In addition, the majestic Red Arrows could be seen flying over the hills of Purbeck and across Swanage Bay, to the delight of many people who may have seen the nine flying stars perform at the carnival before.

The sun shone over Swanage for the majority of the day, before cloud and a short bout of rain took over, but it didn’t seem to dampen visitors’ spirits as they continued to line the seafront.

Different events are taking place each day, until Saturday, August 3, as part of the celebrations for Swanage Carnival, which are set to include fireworks, live music, sports, and sand castle competitions.
