A WOODEN beach hut has sold for more money than many houses.
The hut at Mudeford – with no water or electricity – was sold within days of going on the market, for a reported £180,000.
The beach hut is the latest to fetch a huge price at Mudeford.
Beach hut owners at Mudeford are allowed to sleep there, which is not the case in other parts of the Dorset coast.
But holiday-makers wanting to spend a penny have to head along the seafront to the nearest public WC.
Despite the lack of water, electricity or toilet, the hut – number 305, Needleview – does have a kitchen with cooker. Water can be obtained from a nearby standpipe.
There are solar panels on the roof which power the spot lights and one 12v power socket.
The new owner – who wishes to remain anonymous – owns the leasehold until 2029 and will have to pay a service charge of £1,986 each year to Christchurch council.
Former owner Sarah Litchfield, 48, said: “I had a mad moment 10 years ago and bought it. “I’m a local girl and everyone dreams of having one.
“I have spent many happy years down there and it has been a tough decision to sell.”
In the most recent edition of the Daily Echo’s Location supplement, published every Wednesday, £180,000 would have bought:
- A top-floor, two-bedroom flat with sea views at Southbourne.
- A two double-bedroom flat in Dean Park Road, Bournemouth, with a 21ft lounge-diner
- A one-bedroom cluster home in Verwood, with £20,000 left over.
- A mid-terrace house in Ferndown, with £30,000 change.
