TWO residents of a Swanage flat had a “very lucky” escape according to firefighters after unattended cooking sparked a kitchen fire in the early hours.
Dorset Fire and Rescue Service were called to the first-storey High Street flat around 12.30am this morning.
Crews from Swanage fire station attended and two occupants were treated at the scene for the affects of smoke.
A Dorset Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) spokesman said: “The occupants had a very lucky escape because they had no smoke detector.
“We’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to fit a working smoke detector and to test it every week. Don’t push your luck, push the button.”
The kitchen units sustained severe heat damage, while the rest of the flat sustain smoke damage.
DFRS confirmed the cause of the fire was accidental due to unattended cooking.
