A TALENTED youngster will be giving Tour de France winner Chris Froome a run for his money soon after picking up a gold medal for his cycling skills.
Three-year-old Tevi Davis from Fordingbridge rode his way to gold at the 2013 Strider British Balance Bike Championships qualifying event.
Backed by Britain’s top BMX rider Shanaze Reade, this was the third major event of the 2013 Strider British Balance Bike Championships which brought together 70 children between 18 months and 5 years old to ride and race no-pedal balance bikes over one of the UK’s best BMX tracks.
And after showing off his prowess on the bike, little Tevi emerged victorious in his age group.
Tevi’s dad, Brian Davis said: “It was a fantastic day. We’re really proud of our little Strider master.”
The event also saw Tevi secure his qualifying spot for the Strider British Balance Bike Championship Final later this year, which will see the top riders from six major qualifying events across the country face off against each other for the title of 2013 British Champion.
The winner will then get the chance to represent Great Britain at the 2013 World Championships in Florida.
Melanie Thomas, Strider British Balance Bike Championship organiser said: “What a day of racing. There was a real buzz of excitement around the venue.
“Although a special congratulations goes out to our winners, every rider who came along to the event deserves our heart-felt praise for their efforts on the weekend.
“Research has proven that balance bikes significantly improve balance and coordination which means that even our youngest riders can have a go.
The Strider events are open to anyone, no matter their ability, with opportunities to train and ride at organised coaching sessions before the big day.
“They are designed to be exciting, yet safe, environments for children to explore and play on two wheels, with the added excitement of racing.”
