A NEW children’s playground being built in a Bournemouth car park has run over schedule and will not open for another week.
The Queen’s Park playground, situated in the car park next to the pavilion and golf course, was supposed to be open for the start of the school summer holidays.
But construction work is still continuing and the opening date has now been pushed back to Monday, August 12, subject to a safety inspection.
The council say the project is still within its original budget of £310,000, which is funded by a range of different grants and sources.
Michael Rowland, parks manager, said: “The slight delay has been due to ground conditions.
“This site is on an old Victorian tip site on sands and clays.
“We have had to work with engineers to modify designs to ensure that the paths and structures would be built to last.”
