WOMEN and children escaped uninjured after their car came off the A338 and landed in a ditch.

Drivers faced queues after the silver Ford Galaxy came off the southbound section of the road on Sunday afternoon and ended up 20 metres from the road.

A Dorset Police spokesman said they had repeated calls about two women and two children being in the car when it crashed and the fire service was called out in case they needed help being removed safely from the vehicle.

But fortunately an ambulance was not required and a crane was used to remove the vehicle from a ditch when the road was cleared just before 4pm.

The car was registered to an owner from Tadley near Basingstoke.
