BOURNEMOUTH’S Steve Way became the fifth fastest man in British history over 100 kilometres as he won the Stockholm Ultra Marathon.
Way, 39, came in some 44 minutes ahead of his nearest rival Linus Holmsäter in a stunning time of 6:40:14 and finished at least one lap ahead of every other competitor.
It was the first time Way, who represents Bournemouth AC, had run the distance.
He told stockholmultra.se: “(It was a) fantastic course. This was the right competition for me to run 100km for the first time (and) now I have found my best distance.
"The last lap was hard, but after three months of training you can stand one hour of pain.”
The 100km road record is held by Simon Pride who set a time of 6:24:05 in May 1999.
Way's time is the quickest by a Brit this century and trumped his nearest challenger this year, Craig Holgate, by over half-an-hour.
