MOTORISTS are warned to take care this afternoon as heavy rain makes its way across the county.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain for the south west, covering Dorset, which is valid until 9pm.

The warning says: “Accumulations of 20-40 mm are likely in many parts with the risk of more than 60 mm over parts of southwest England, Wales and northern England. The public are advised to be aware of the risk of surface water flooding.”

The Chief Forecaster’s assessment reads: “A waving frontal zone will remain slow-moving across the area before slowly clearing east later today. Rain could turn thundery at times with some intense downpours within the longer spells of rain.”

@Bournemouthecho Current rain rate in West Howe 36mm per hour.
