TRAVELLERS who arrived at Broadstone last Wednesday moved onto Haskells recreation ground in Parkstone, last night, shortly after Borough of Poole secured an eviction order at court.
The group made their way on to the playing fields off Ringwood Road, Newtown, just before 10pm.
The order was served late yesterday afternoon on the majority of the encampment, but it did not cover three of the 17 caravans and two motor homes, which arrived on Saturday.
“Sixteen will have to leave within 24 hours,” said a spokesman for the Borough of Poole. “However we may have to go back to court for an order for the remaining three and we cannot secure the site until they have all departed.”
The group had moved onto council-owned Broadstone Recreation Park after being evicted from Canford Heath last week.
Cllr Vikki Slade, who represents Broadstone for the Liberal Democrats, said a sizeable number were leaving the site shortly after 5pm.
She said they had stayed in the area because people employed them to do drives, patios and guttering, despite council warnings not to take on cold callers offering to do work for cash.
The prospective parliamentary candidate for Mid Dorset and North Poole said she and colleague Cllr Sandra Moore, who represents Canford Heath East, would be meeting the head of environmental protection on Thursday.
“I believe we can put forward some ideas to make sites more secure that won’t cost a fortune and won’t leave them looking like fortresses,” she said.
A 38-year-old man from Middlesex, arrested on Friday for a public order offence, has been released on bail.
