A TEENAGER from Poole has been selected to represent the south of England at the national Sainsbury’s School Games.
Volleyball player Harry Jones, 15, who goes to Poole Grammar School, is to compete at Sheffield’s English Institute of Sport between September 12 and 15.
He will be following in the footsteps of Paralympic gold medallist sprinters Hannah Cockcroft and Jonnie Peacock, swimmer Ellie Simmonds, Olympic bronze medal-winning gymnasts Max Whitlock and Sam Oldham, and top GB sprinter Adam Gemilli.
“I am looking forward to representing my region. This will be my first time at the Games but I am aiming to play to the best of my ability and play in a way that gets the best out of my team,” he said.
Footballer David Beckham, Sainsbury’s Active Kids ambassador, said: “Harry should be incredibly proud of being selected.
“To be given the chance to compete in a multi-sport event and experience a major sporting occasion like this is a huge opportunity for these young people.”
The games, supported by National Lottery money, will see more than 1,600 youngsters competing across 12 sports.
