THE occupants of a house in Gillingham had a lucky escape when a fire started in a bedroom on Tuesday night.
Firefighters were called to Jay Walk at 11.32pm.
A spokesman said that the fire was caused by smoking materials setting light to the room, which was severley damaged. The rest of the home suffered light smoke damage.
One of the occupants of the house was treated for shock at the scene.
The fire service said smoke alarms alerted those inside and reminded people to test theirs regularly.
