A NEW children’s charity based in Boscombe is looking for more young people to help from within the county.
The Dorset Children’s Foundation, based on Christchurch Road, started up in March 2013, by husband and wife team, Patsy and Scott Hallmey, after both of them have previous experience of working for charities.
Patsy said: “The reason we started up this charity is because we wanted to increase the final donation which is made to the end-user, because we have seen how the money can get filtered down.
“It really is about being based in Boscombe and helping those people who need it. We saw the empty shop, which we knew had been a charity shop before, and thought ‘Why not?’ “We aim to be transparent with the money we give, which has so far reached in £6,015 in total, and where it goes, by putting details of the money we’ve given, in our window.”
Examples of donations that the charity has made include a three-day trip to London for a family with a teenager with multiple difficulties, and £1,000 went to Springbourne Family Centre, to be spent on multi-sensory equipment.
Scott added: “We know people that have children with disabilities, and also when you start doing this, you hear about more people, say, who are long-term sick or have life-limiting illnesses, or behavioural difficulties.
“We either meet these people when they come into the shop, or through word of mouth, and we do ask for some medical evidence to prove their need.
Patsy said: “Every cause will be taken into account, but we must have guarantees that the money is going to the end-user.”
