POLICE are searching for an elderly motorist who drove the wrong way up a dual carriageway in North Dorset.
A small silver car driving the wrong way along the A30 near Horsecastles Lane in Sherborne on Saturday lunchtime forced a woman driving a silver Mazda MX5 convertible to crash into the central reservation.
The offending vehicle failed to stop at the scene and continued along the road before crossing onto the correct side of the carriageway and driving off.
Police Constable Angus Wilson, of Sherborne police, said: “I am appealing for anyone with information about this incident to contact Dorset Police urgently.
“We believe the offending vehicle was being driven by an elderly motorist.
“I am confident they will undoubtedly be aware a collision occurred at the scene before they drove off and I would urge them to do the right thing and speak with the police.
“This is a busy stretch of road and I believe someone will have seen what happened, or may have details regarding the car or driver involved.”
Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 quoting incident number 03:284. Alternatively, call the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
