RESIDENTS are celebrating after Slades Farm has become the latest Bournemouth park to receive a Green Flag Award.
The accolade brings the resort’s Green Flag tally to 14, in recognition of the high standards, beauty and excellent facilities on offer.
Slades Farm has undergone a major facelift in recent years with the addition of the Bournemouth Cycling Centre, a network of paths, a children’s playground and a community food growing project.
The changes, brought about with the help of local clubs, residents and community groups, have made the park a much more popular venue.
Ward councillor Susan Phillips said: “I feel very privileged to be associated with an area that takes so much pride in its parks.
“Slades Farm, with its beautiful surroundings, is certainly extremely popular with local residents.”
Cllr Lawrence Williams, Cabinet member for leisure and tourism, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and well deserved recognition for the dedicated team of staff and community volunteers who have worked on the site and improved it throughout the year.
“It is down to their efforts that the town receives these awards. I would encourage everyone to get out and enjoy one of our Green Flag winning parks.”
Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “We are thrilled to announce yet another record-breaking year for Green Flag Awards parks and green spaces.
“An award provides national recognition for the hard work and dedication of all the parks, managers, staff and volunteers who have helped to create these fantastic places for all to enjoy.
“Quality green spaces are absolutely essential to happy, healthy communities.
“They are fundamental to our quality of life.”
