ASK people whether traffic goes too fast in their road and a high percentage will say “yes”.
Yet many of those same people drive too fast in someone else’s street, town or village.
So will the growth of Community Speed Watch groups – consisting of volunteers armed with mobile devices – make a difference to the behaviour of heavy-footed drivers who often ignore penalty points and fines?
With many speed cameras switched off and fewer traffic police, we have to hope community efforts can play a part in improving road safety.
