A HAPPY couple have made history by being the first to say “I do” at Camp Bestival in West Lulworth.
Elizabeth and Patrick Convery’s wedding ceremony took place at 3.30pm on Saturday in the Courtyard Ceremony Room at Lulworth Castle.
The beaming couple tied the knot in front of family and friends before making an appearance on Castle Stage to rousing applause. Newlywed Elizabeth threw her bouquet in to the crowd and the couple’s official wedding photos were screened on the main stage straight after The Cuban Brother’s live set.
Elizabeth and Patrick from Wales requested to have the first-ever ceremony at the multi-award winning music extravaganza because they love the festival so much.
Groom Patrick said: “We were originally going to get married in secret without anybody knowing, but we were coming to the festival with the kids anyway so we phoned and asked if there were any registry offices nearby and the idea came to get married here.”
“It’s been absolutely fantastic. And we’ve got thousands of guests – and we don’t have to worry about feeding any of them.”
Elizabeth said: “We were quite nervous about going on the stage but we had a glass of prosecco and that helped.
Castle and parks manager, Paul Pinnock confirmed the ceremony was legal and binding.
He said: “It’s delightful. Everyone that’s gone by and looked in to the ceremony has a huge smile on their face.
“I had a call from the happy couple asking if they could get married at the festival. I spoke to Rob Da Bank and he said of course.
“The ceremony is all legal and binding and forever. This is the real thing.”
Patrick and Elizabeth have been friends for 20 years and a couple for two.
