TWO men have been released on bail after being quizzed about a robbery in a Bournemouth convenience store.
The raid, which sparked a major police response, saw a customer hit over the head with a bottle of Jack Daniels.
Two men, aged 36 and 38, from Birmingham were detained after raiders struck at Premier Star Stores in Queen’s Road, Westbourne.
Police were called after the men entered the store at 7.45pm on Wednesday. Officers believe they tried to steal cash from the till and became involved in a scuffle with staff and customers.
Three police cars, the force helicopter and sniffer dogs were used in the search for the offenders, which centred on the Branksome Wood Road and Surrey Road areas. A 42-year-old man suffered minor facial cuts during the incident. Yesterday staff at the shop refused to comment but neighbours spoke out afterwards.
Shuhel Amin of the Tiger Bay Indian takeaway said: “I saw a man running out holding a bottle – he looked about 50.”
Dawn Doe from the Ruby Lounge added: “I saw an ambulance and two police cars.”
Investigating officers have renewed their appeal for help with their inquiries and confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
Witnesses or anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
