A YACHT was towed back to Poole Quay this afternoon after an overheating engine sparked fears there was a fire on-board.

The vessel, crewed by a family with children, was towed to land by a lifeboat.

A spokesperson from Dorset Fire and Rescue Service said: "We received a call at 1.15pm.

"Two whole-time pumps from Poole attended."

A spokesperson from Portland Coastguard said there was a lot of smoke caused by an overheating engine.

He added: "All credit goes to Poole Harbour Control, who were there immediately.

"The family did exactly the right thing by getting in touch."

No one was hurt in the incident.
