REVISED plans for a new Morrisons supermarket have been lodged for the Beagle site in Christchurch.

Developer the Simons Group, which withdrew an appeal earlier this year after councillors refused the scheme in 2012, has submitted a new application for a food store on the site.

And on Wednesday it will be holding a public exhibition at the Kings Arms hotel in Christchurch displaying the plans.

Chris Newsome, developments director, said: “We have incorporated local feedback with councillors comments and have created new plans for a Morrisons that we feel provides a real opportunity for revitalising Christchurch.

“We are really excited about our new plans and look forward to seeing plenty of familiar faces at our information day at the Kings Arms Hotel in Christchurch on Wednesday.”

The application, which was given to planners at the council last week, sees the location of the supermarket on the site moved, as well as access to the store, road improvements and pedestrian access. The scale of the building has also been revised.

A spokesperson for the developers said the application has been resubmitted because “the store has to be the right fit for Christchurch”.

“The team listened to local feedback and wanted to reflect the feedback and provide a store that is of real benefit to Christchurch, which these plans show.”

The original application was one of three major supermarket schemes proposed in Christchurch last year.

Two of the three – one at Bailey Drive and another at Meteor Retail Park in Somerford – were approved after the first decisions were scrapped.

During the previous planning meeting in October 2012, Beagle Technology Group’s managing director, John Taylor, said they would be able to move and expand their premises to Bournemouth Airport, if the application was approved. The exhibition on Wednesday, August 14, will take place from 1pm-8pm.
