GEORGE was already the 10th most popular baby name in the South West, even before the birth of our future king, new figures show.
The annual baby name statistics show that 458 babies born in the region in 2012 were named George. Nationally, it was 12th on the list, the same as in 2011.
The top ten names in England remained largely the same as last year, with only Joshua dropping out of the list, to be replaced by Riley - the seventh most popular name in the South West.
Harry, Oliver and Jack were the most popular names for boys, in England and Wales and in our region.
For girls in the South West, Poppy and Ruby both bucked the national trend, with Ruby 10th most popular locally compared with 12th nationally. Poppy was fourth most popular in the South West compared with 13th nationally.
