A MUM has made a plea to council chiefs after her daughter was hit by a motorbike on a busy Bournemouth road.

As reported in the Daily Echo, Corinne Lovell, from Kinson, was walking her daughter, Shannon, seven, to school at around 8.35am when a motorcycle struck the little girl as she crossed Columbia Road at Ensbury Park.

Shannon escaped with just a few cuts and grazes on her face and a bruise to her leg following the incident in June.

Now, Corinne has addressed councillors, presenting a petition to the full council meeting at the end of July asking for a puffin crossing to be put in place before there is another accident.

She told the meeting that the petition for a crossing near to Priestly Road had 235 signatures, as well as support from community organisations and Richard Gower, head of Kingsleigh School.

Corinne said she wanted it installed for the safety of schoolchildren and elderly residents.

“I’m in the process of forming a local action group of residents to improve our neighbourhood. Today we’re requesting that the council seriously considers our petition,” she added.

Corinne had already started a Facebook campaign to gather support for a crossing on what she told councillors was a “very busy road”.

Councillors agreed to refer the petition to the cabinet member for transport, Cllr Michael Filer.

After the incident, Ian Kalra, transportation services manager at the council, said it would investigate such requests for crossings and that the petition would be given “due consideration”.
