AN INCREDIBLE line-up will open Bournemouth’s third Arts by the Sea Festival.
There will be a stunning mix of outdoor performances from Friday, September 20, until Sunday, September 22.
Joe Rush and his Mutoid Waste Company’s giant articulated creations will take over the seafront in a spectacular performance of lights, animatronics and special effects.
Three weeks of film, music, theatre, visual arts, literature and dance follow, coming to a climax on October 12.
Other attractions during the opening weekend will include Ray Lee whose sound sculptures on giant metal tripods will tower above the crowds, Michael Grubb Studio light sculptures and Jem Finer’s Spiegelei-on-Sea, using mirror and lens technology.
England’s only vintage mobile camera will give audiences a slice of cinema history and Valise Noire storytelling theatre will transform the bandstand into an alternative shoe shop.
The swing and jive band The Regular Joes will perform and there’ll even be a silent disco. There will also be roving piano recitals with the glorious finale; a very English interpretation of Venice’s 1,000-year-old Marriage of the Sea ceremony, performed by more than 100 local people. Phil Gibby, Arts Council England South West area director, said: “This year’s Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival promises to be another high quality, inspiring three weeks packed full of art and culture for everyone.
“Festivals mean big business for the local economy, generating economic growth and jobs as well as a lot of fun."
The Opening Weekend will be staged in the town centre, Lower Gardens and on the beach. For full programme details visit www.artsbournemouth.org.uk
