A LUCKY lad will share more adventures on two wheels with his father thanks to a one-of-a-kind Bournemouth event.

Ethan Webb, nine, was picked randomly from hundreds of spectators to win the surprise giveway at the Bournemouth Night Sky Ride last month - a Canondale Road Bike worth £900 donated by Cycling Sports Group. However, Ethan was too small to ride his prize away on the night, and had to patiently wait for the bike to be resized.

Over 5,000 people took part in last month’s Bournemouth Night Sky Ride event, which saw families and groups of all ages and abilities enjoy traffic-free roads.

Throughout the day, Ethan had pleaded with his parents, Jo and Andy, for a road bike. As the Bournemouth family watched the podium presentations after the event, the schoolboy was randomly picked as the winner of the bike.

Ethan’s father Andy said: “Ethan kept saying he really wanted a road bike so it was the perfect end to a great day in Bournemouth.”

As a keen cyclist, Andy already takes Ethan on off-road cycle rides at Upton Heath and Moors Valley Country Park, and now the pair will try out road routes too.

Ethan will also take part in a bike safety course at Ferndown Leisure Centre.

Councillor Filer, Cabinet Member for Transport, said; “It’s clear that Ethan is really excited about his new bike and it’s fantastic that it will help father and son spend more quality time together.

“It was wonderful to see so many people at Bournemouth’s Night Sky Ride and I hope it encourages more people like Ethan and his father, to have enjoyable experiences on two wheels.”
