A RESIDENTS’ group is calling for action to stop people having sex and injecting drugs in bushes at a beauty spot.

Chris Colledge, chairman of the West Cliff Green Residents’ Association in Bournemouth, said he and his neighbours are growing concerned and are calling for preventative measures from the police and council.

“The bushes are overgrown at the top of the green and that’s where people have been having sex,” he said.

“One of the local residents saw someone in there with a needle in their arm. What the residents say to me is that there are not enough police patrols so they are not being proactive to prevent this.”

He wants the council to cut back the bushes at the top of the green to deter people. Chris was threatened with a knife in June when he asked someone to collect their litter.

He met up with council officers and councillors John Beesley and Rae Stollard and also raised concerns about the state of the shelter, which the council will be working on this Autumn.

Cllr Beesley said officers were cutting back bushes on the paths but a decision had yet to be made on the area where drug use and sex has taken place.

He said: “We do need to consider what everyone wants as one person’s cutting back of the greenery for security is another person’s vandalism.”

Bournemouth Central Neighbourhood Inspector Dean O’Connor said he has been working with the council on problems at the West Cliff.
