POLICE were last night awaiting the results of a post-mortem into the body of a man discovered on Hengistbury Head on Tuesday morning.
Officers were called to grassland near Solent Beach car park at the popular beauty spot around 6.20am after a member of public made the find.
The Daily Echo understands a gun may have been involved in the death but a police spokesperson said they were unable to confirm or deny this. Officers are not treating the death as suspicious.
The body is said to be that of a man aged in his 30s and his next of kin have been informed. The matter has now been passed to the coroner.
An inquest is expected to be opened and adjourned in the coming days.
Police cordoned off the grassland area on Tuesday morning while the body was removed from the scene at Hengistbury Head.
A red Citroen car was recovered from the adjacent car park, although police were unable to confirm whether this was linked to the incident.
