A COUNCIL worker was caught napping when his Borough of Poole car was snapped on double yellow lines.

Delivery driver David Mack was returning to the shop he works for, when he noticed the council electric car parked on Alexandra Road at around 1pm.

He said he saw the driver sitting inside, with the seat reclined and apparently snoozing. Mr Mack decided to take a picture and send it to the Borough of Poole.

David said: “There are lots of traffic calming pillars along that road, as it is just next to the main Ashley Road.

“The point at which the car was parked would mean that if a car had been coming into the opposite direction to my van, they would have had nowhere to pull in.

“It’s not good, especially when the council are using taxpayers’ money to pay for this electric car.”

Stephen Thorne, head of planning and regeneration at the Borough of Poole, said he was “disappointed” to see the council vehicle, which is used by staff on site visits, parked illegally.

He added: “The colleague was on their lunch break at the time, but this does not excuse parking on double yellow lines.

“The council does not issue parking tickets retrospectively, whether to staff or the public.

“However, we have an internal policy which states that our staff must obey the Highway Code and park legally, when on council business.

“We will be speaking with the individual concerned regarding the most appropriate course of action.”
