A MAJOR Bournemouth road was closed this afternoon following a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

Police were called to Christchurch Road by the ambulance service at 1.53pm.

A spokesman said the injured man had got off a bus in a lay-by before the accident happened. He suffered a broken right leg but was conscious and breathing.

The road was closed at the St Swithun's Roundabout but has since re-opened.

The car involved was a silver Ford Fiesta. The casualty was taken to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital by ambulance.
