Raiders stole a large wardrobe, wall units, fridge, a cooker and other personal items as well as ‘completely ransacking’ the flat in St Nicholas Street.
The victim, a 41-year-old man, came home to find his front door had been forced and his belongings damaged and strewn across the floor.
Officers are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward.
PC Andy Dickinson, of Weymouth police, said: “This has been an extremely upsetting ordeal for the victim, who has suffered the loss of numerous personal belongings. Not only were possessions stolen, but the flat was completely ransacked and left in a state of disrepair.
