A JET setting 83-year-old with ‘a thirst for life’ had a hen do to remember.

Barbara Davies, of Poole, was treated to a vintage themed tea party on Saturday complete with a butler in the buff dressed simply in an apron.

Daughter Sara Briscoe, organising the party in her Poole home, said: “I wanted my mum to have a special time.

“She worked really hard raising the five of us and having a successful career so when in her later life she has met someone special to her we wanted to give her a really good send off.”

She added: “Mum is not your usual 83-year-old – she is spritely, vibrant and just grabs life and is always game for a good laugh.”

The 26 guests were treated to Champagne from the scantily dressed butler and a cheeky game of Mr and Mrs.

Close family members all pitched in to make the day a success with all three generations baking cakes, making tea and decorating the house.

Since retiring from her job as a housing development sales agent at the age of 71, Barbara has travelled the world, including Vietnam, India and Indonesia.

She stills goes to the gym twice a week and attends aqua-fit. After having a successful career, bringing up five children, being a supportive nan to ten grandchildren and one great grandchild, Barbara thought her dating days were over.

But then, as a widow of 17 years Barbara met her fiancé John Clode, 71, four years ago at her croquet club. After getting engaged in Cyprus last summer they planned their wedding for this September, then plan to travel the world.

Barbara said: “I guess you could say I’m adventurous but for me I just like enjoying life, travelling and I believe you can’t just sit staring at the four walls because the world is not going to come to you. For me my hen party was very special and I wouldn’t have thought in a million years I’d ever have one of these – they weren’t even invented for my first marriage. Most of my friends said they wouldn’t miss it for anything and we’ve had such a good time.”
