POLICE have introduced new powers to tackle antisocial behaviour in Verwood.
The force and East Dorset District Council have agreed the use of dispersal powers under Section 30 of the Antisocial Behaviour Act 2003 following a rise in bad behaviour and criminal damage in the town.
These powers will allow officers to direct anyone behaving inappropriately away from Verwood and the Potterne area.
Dorset Police say they are also providing an enhanced level of policing, focused on preventing antisocial behaviour as well as crime and disorder.
The Section 30 order also allows police to take home any under 16s who are found acting antisocially in a public place in the town between 9pm and 6am.
Sgt Nicola Loftus said: “These powers will give officers additional measures to deal effectively, robustly and promptly with antisocial behaviour in the area designated.
“Dorset Police has been working hard with partner agencies to ensure crime and antisocial behaviour are effectively tackled in Verwood and Potterne.”
She said Antisocial Behaviour Orders and other legislation will be considered against the worst offenders.
