Musician and scout leader Rob Bawdon died from a gunshot wound, an inquest was told today.

Mr Bawdon's body was found at Hengistbury Head on August 13 with a shotgun next to him. His body was identified from photos of his tattoos.

Dr Simon Rassbridge, from Bournemouth Hospital, carried out a post-mortem examination and confirmed the cause of death was a gunshot wound.

The inquest was adjourned until October 1 2013.

Hundreds have paid tribute to Mr Bawdon, who was a leader of the 47th Braggers Wood Explorers, part of the Christchurch District Explorers, as well as a member of popular band Lady Winwoods Maggot.

The talented musician played guitar, banjo and mandolin for the band, as well as singing.

On the band's Facebook page, devastated parents Stephanie and Dennis have written their thanks for the support they have received.

The message said: “Dennis and I are overwhelmed by all the tributes and warmth shown by all the fans, both to him and us.”

Mr Bawdon's funeral will take place at Hinton Park Woodland burial site in Walkford at 12.30pm on August 29.

All of his friends or fans of the band are welcome to attend, but are asked not to wear black.

Afterwards, mourners are welcome to share memories of Mr Bawdon at the Stourvale in Barrack Road.

Donations for Help for Heroes are requested rather than flowers.
